About Mike

MikeWatkinsMike Watkins leads our cycling instruction, maintenance/repair and cycling consulting services. He holds nationally recognized certifications as a Cycling Instructor (from the League of American Bicyclists, Certification - LCI #4471) and as a Professional Bicycle Mechanic (United Bicycle Institute). Mike is uniquely qualified to teach a broad cycling curriculum. In addition to being a member of the League of American Bicyclists he is a member of the Cascade Bicycle Club, and Bike Tri-Cities, a non-profit cycling advocacy organization. Several years ago Mike ignited the transformation of his churches modest bicycle ministry into a non-profit called "INgear Community Cycling". This effort provides bicycles to the undeserved in our community. His longer-term mission is to transform lives through cycling by creating a sustainable Tri-Cities cycling environment that leverages the skills, interests, and passions of all Tri-City cyclist to diversify cycling in our community and beyond. 

Mike is a husband, father, cycling advocate, inventor, and physicist.  In 2005 he and his family moved to Washington State from Virginia.  The cycling resources in the Tri-Cities reignited his passion for cycling.  It wasn’t long before he had built his own home maintenance shop for repairing the bikes of family and friends. When he’s on the bike, Mike can often be found commuting for business and enjoying longer weekend rides.  Mike supports the annual Cystic Fibrosis Cycle for Life®, school bike education events (bike fairs or rodeos), the Cascade Bicycle Club's Major Taylor Project, and is a member of the Safe Kids Coalition, Sponsor and participant in the annual Inland Empire Century and Seattle to Portland (STP) rides. He also enjoys inventing new cycling accessories and re-purposing used goods for cycling.  Mike has 24 patents and is currently working on several new sports-related products.  He has over 25 years of hands-on technical experience in mechanics, materials, and structures.  Mike has approximately 20 years of experience in the development and servicing of consumer, industrial, and government products.
